Object of the Month – January 2010
Prehistoric clay pot
This typical Mississippian Culture clay pot was made in the area by the predecessors of the Winnebago and Fox tribes of Indians. Complete vessels such as this are extremely rare due to damage generally caused by severe frosts.
This object is one of more than a thousand Native American objects in the Neenah Historical Society’s Olen Collection. Many of the items – including this pot – are on permanent display in the south lobby of the Neenah City Hall.
